On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court announced its decision in Roe v. Wade, a challenge to a Texas statute that made it a crime to perform an abortion unless a woman’s life was at stake. The case<br />
had been filed by “Jane Roe,” an unmarried woman who wanted to safely and legally end her pregnancy. Siding with Roe, the court struck down the Texas law. In its ruling, the court recognized for the first time that the constitutional right to privacy “is broad enough to encompass a woman’s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy” (Roe v. Wade, 1973).

Reproductive Freedom Advocacy Day - NC General Assembly
2/21/2023-11:30
2/21/2023-16:00
16 W. Jones Street, Raleigh, NC
On Tuesday, February 21st we will be at the North Carolina General Assembly in Raleigh to raise our voices for abortion access and reproductive freedom for all. We hope you can join us! We will be joining a broad coalition of organizations and community members from across the state to demand that the legislature protect our access to the full range of reproductive healthcare options, including abortion. We will be at the legislature to get trained on how to lobby our elected representatives, meet with state lawmakers, and share our pro-choice message. You will also have an opportunity to build community through art and advocacy at a designated art space outside of the legislative building. Lunch will be provided! If you are not able to join us in person in Raleigh, you can still make your voice heard via emails and calls. Our lawmakers need to hear from us! Registration is required for the in-person lobby day. Click the Book Now link to register.
