Mobilizing for Reproductive Justice
March, 2023 – Greensboro, North Carolina

Our Story

The Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization Decision removed the long-established protection of reproductive rights, jeopardizing the physical, mental, and financial health of millions.

Voice for Choice is a Greensboro grass roots effort to raise awareness and funds to reclaim this critical protection and provide access to these services.

A Basic Human Right at Risk:Self-Determination

Access to abortion remains legal in North Carolina, but anti-choice legislators are  just one seat away from a supermajority in the House.  If they win, we lose.  In November 2022, there were critical losses in the state Senate and Supreme Court. Regardless of race, political affiliation, ethnicity, or sexual identity, we are outraged and prepared to turn our anger into action.

Make The Month of March Matter

Make your voice heard during Women’s History Month.  We kicked it off on March 1st with a well attended screening of THE JANES at 232 South Elm Street in Greensboro.  Our second  screening of THE JANES was on March 18th at 134 South Elm Street in Greensboro.  It was well attended as well with some lively discussion following the movie.  If you missed the free screenings of THE JANES, you can still watch it on HBO Max.  Then host or attend one of many small gatherings across the city.

Are you passionate about the Right to Choose?

Help us raise money throughout Women’s History Month for Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic and Carolina Abortion Fund (CAF). Help elect candidates who support women’s reproductive health legislation and provide funds for much-needed resources right here on the ground in North Carolina.

Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic fights for reproductive health and rights across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

With our advocacy, we are able to uplift the stories and lives of our patients and supporters. Through this, we are able to make sure our message is heard by both voters and lawmakers.

We endorse and campaign for candidates who advocate for accessible reproductive healthcare, protect access to abortion, support LGBTQ+ rights, and work for equity of people and their families.

We believe that abortion is healthcare, and healthcare should be well-resourced and accessible to all.

CAF operates a confidential, tollfree helpline that provides financial, practical, and emotional support to callers in North and South Carolina trying to access abortion care. We serve all of our callers regardless of gender identity, race, age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, religion, ability, place of origin, citizenship, and all other physical or social defining factors.

What's on the Books

  • 72 Hour Waiting Period – NC is one of only five states with that long of a waiting period, and a recent study showed waiting periods had little impact on a person’s decision to have an abortion. Patients must also listen to a biased state-mandated script written by anti-abortion lawmakers and filled with medical inaccuracies meant to shame and scare people seeking abortion care.
  • Bans on abortion coverage in Public and Private Health Insurance.
  • Ban on the use of telemedicine to provide abortion care and requires a physician be physically present during a medication abortion when the first medication is administered.
  • Minors can only get an abortion with written parental consent or by petitioning the court for a judicial waiver, a process that can be time-consuming, intimidating, and often dependent on the knowledge and personal beliefs of clerks, judges, and other court personnel.

In the spring of 1972, police raided an apartment on the South Side of Chicago where seven women who were part of a clandestine network were arrested and charged. Using code names, fronts, and safe houses to protect themselves and their work, the accused had built an underground service for women seeking safe, affordable, illegal abortions. They called themselves “Jane.”
